Loud pops during note-ons when using mouth filter

(4 posts)

  1. I've noticed that when the mouth filter is enabled and you have an LFO linked to the formant fader, there are some very prominent pops being generated during note-ons. Here are a couple of example recordings where I've simply got the LFO set to a slow speed, morphing between the default AA-EE-OH formants, with default envelopes, etc. The problem only seems to occur when the formant fader is being automated, and only during a certain range where the resonance seems to build up to a certain point, causing these peaks/pops.

Is there any way to reduce this perhaps?

On another note, I'm really liking the synth so far, I especially love how fluid and intuitive the interface feels... very nice! I did have a couple of teething problems yesterday, a couple of crashes which I will try to track down (using Renoise 1.9 as my host btw), but overall I think you have a very interesting product here. Best of luck with it!

  2. Hi dblue,

Can you send me screen print of Circle, as I can't recreate the problem directly here.

send it through to support(at)futureaudioworkshop(dot)com with the subject title "Circle Mouth Filter Pops"

Glad you like Circle and thanks for the help.

  3. Sure thing. I'll also just give a quick description here.

    - Create a new patch.
    - Set oscillator to analog/sine. (Any will do but it's very clear with a sine)
    - Enable mouth filter, set mix to 100% just to make the results more obvious.
    - Enable LFO and set rate to something slow like 0.15 hz, set level to max.
    - Link LFO to Mouth Filter formant fader.
    - Repeatedly play some notes at a fairly moderate pace. Around C-4 is what I tested it with.

It might take a bit of experimenting, but at certain points you should experience the popping sound.

  4. Hi dblue,

I tracked it down and have fixed the problem. It will be ok in version 1.0.1 which will be released tomorrow.
