  1. Experimented with the demo of Circle today what no-so-fresh results.

Circle may be too much for Ableton to handle. Even on a completely empty set my 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 with 2GB of RAM, several patches cause Ableton's (7.07) CPU meter to jump well above 80%. I can't imagine what would happen if I tried to use this Audio Unit on a larger session.

    Any suggestions?

  2. EXAMPLE:

The patch "Mars" takes up 17% of the CPU without even playing a single note. One sustained note takes up 29%. Two notes with a bit of velocity will jump the CPU meter to 50%.

  3. hey,

mars has 12 polyphony setting, maybe you could try lowering that?

  4. Hi,

As subsky stated, some presets have high polyphony counts. You can reduce down the voice count in the settings pane or alternatively increase you soundcard's buffer size in Ableton.

We have added a feature request for an economy mode, which will be useful if you want to reduce down the processor usage while writing. Then when you go to render your music go back to full mode.

    Thanks,
    Gavin.

  5. thats cooler :)

  6. That would be pretty freakin' sweet.

    Another feature request:

Ability to scroll through presets rather than using the drop-down, especially since some of the patches that are lower on the drop-down screen require you to scroll to get to them. I lose my place... ;)

I've been using Circle with ableton as well and I find that any more detailed patches than say a drum hit are taking up a huge amount of processing power. When it is playing it consistently stays in the 60 - 80% region and when not playing it spikes around 17 %. In Sonar it only brings the meter up to 34 % when playing the same patches. Whats strange is the economy mode doesn't exactly alleviate the problem. My computer is above the spec at 3.4 ghz and a gig of ram. Also for some reason Circle takes well over a minute to load on my desktop pc whilst only taking a few seconds on my laptop which is not as powerful. Both are running Windows XP and the desktop just had a full formatting and reinstall.

  9. Hi D_13,

Can you send me an exact description ( ableton buffer size, where your in full screen mode, patches that are heavy etc ) to support(at)futureaudioworkshop.com and I'll run through it.

  10. I just purchased the software and I too am getting rather large spikes in CPU usage.

    MacBook Intel 2GHz Core Duo
    1.5 Gigs of RAM
    MOTU Traveler
Ableton Live 7 (pretty sure its the latest rev)

As soon as I get more details I will post them here.

Ill try reducing some polyphony for now.

Other than that issue Circle has the potential of being my new favorite softsynth. :)

    Hello there.
I am too absolutely in love with Circle even to the point of making it my main source of sounds alongside my Machinedrum.

BUT, it's eating the processor with just one clip Circle VST. My machine should be able to handle it perfectly.

    it's the new macbook pro 2.4ghz with 4GB of ram...and i'm using Ableton 7.10
